Makna Figuratif Penggunaan Nama Hewan dalam Peribahasa Arab (Analisis Semantik Kognitif)

Abstract


This study examines the use of animal names in Arabic proverb of
cognitive semantics approach. It finds of the use of animal names in Arabic
proverbs in relation to geographical conditions, biogeographic, and socio-cultural
Arab society. In addition, it also to find out the reference of animal names and
the function of proverb that use the animal names in Arabic proverb. The data
were obtained from a collection of proverbs entitled "Farāidul 'Adab" by Louis
Ma'lūf (2002) which is compilled with the dictionary "Al-Munjid". After that,
the data were analysed by using interpretative method were then it was validated
by Arabic native speakers. The theory of data analysis uses the Great Chain
Metaphor Theory by Lakoff and Turner (1987) which is the development of
conceptual metaphor theory of Lakoff and Jonshon (1980). Presenting the result
of the analyse of the data presented by using descriptive method.
