KEPEMIMPINAN KEPALA SEKOLAH DI SEKOLAH DASAR MUHAMMADIYAH

Abstract


This study aims to reveal the leadership of the principal of SD Muhammadiyah Kebumen, Kebumen District, Kebumen Regency. The approach used in this study is case study qualitative. The subject was selected using the purposive sampling technique, consisting of Primary and Secondary Education Council of Kebumen Muhammadiyah Regional Leaders, Primary and Secondary Education Council of Kebumen Muhammadiyah Branch Leaders, school supervisors, principal, teachers, employees, students, and school committee members. The research data were collected through interviews, observation, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using the interactive analysis technique of Miles & Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusions. This study showed five findings. Firstly, SD Muhammadiyah Kebumen owns branding as an excellent school because it has much superiority over other SD’s Muhammadiyah in Kebumen Regency. However, SD Muhammadiyah Kebumen is not capable of being the best school in Kebumen district because of: (a) inadequate school infrastructure; (b) frequent teacher replacement, especially part time teachers; and (c) unoptimal administrative activities of the school. Secondly, the principal of SD Muhammadiyah Kebumen has a good ability to manage changes and school development towards effective learning organization. Thirdly, the principal contributes  factors to the task in SD Muhammadiyah Kebumen to manifest school achievement including: (a) the strategic location of the school; (b) the participation of parents/guardians of students; (c) competent human resources; and (d) the school culture supporting the effectiveness of the work. Fourthly, the principal leadership style of SD Muhammadiyah Kebumen is collective-collegial and democratic. The last, the principal actualizes Muhammadiyah values in doing his duties.
